food allergy test

A food allergy test is administrated by a doctor in his or her office. It usually takes between 5 and 7 minutes and is normally painless. To perform this test, gelatin capsules are used which contain an extract of a certain food product that a food allergy test would show.  Sometimes capsules contain a neutral substance that is also used for a food allergy test. The result can be ready in as little as 5 minutes or it could be as long as 7 days, depending on the complexity of the case. There is always the risk of very severe reactions that can be life threatening. These tests are never suggested without the supervision of a doctor. There are other reactions such as nausea; diarrhea, runny nose and eyes are ordinary as well in these tests. For the most part, the test is generally safe when performed correctly.

A food provocation test is where they inject a needle of food proteins into the skin.
This test is conducted by giving the person an injection or asked to swallow a test capsule which contains the food ingredients that are being tested. The person will then be under observation for symptoms which may show within minutes or might take days.

To make certain of the right results sometimes the test is conducted with neutral capsules thus, inducing the placebo effect; in this case the doctor nor the patient knows.

A food challenge test is a blood test that measures food properties.
Indigestion test --one of these noninvasive tests is a blood test and the other is a breath test.

A food allergy test is effective and reliable when performed with eating of the foods products as it follows the same course as usual. After the test you will wait for 20-30 minutes and test will be conducted for several reactions; in the case that symptoms become visible, they will persist for several days. Depending on the outcome of the food allergy test you will be put on the required medication and/or avoid the consumption of the food product.  With the doctor’s help, you ought to be able to get your food allergies under control.

The purpose of the above tests is to authenticate an allergy connected to a particular food or food additive. These tests are used as a last resort should all other test fail.

Avoid eating any food products that might be the cause of the allergy.
Do not use antihistamines or any allergy drugs proceeding to the test.
